The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
